BeBox Emulator Brings the Dual-Processor BeOS Machine Back to Life on Haiku
BeBox is a Haiku application that emulates Be Inc.'s BeBox

A Haiku-native emulator recreates Be Inc.'s BeBox, the dual-processor computer that birthed BeOS. It runs both PowerPC models from original boot ROMs, supporting BeOS for PowerPC from Developer Release 6 through R5.0.3, and also emulates the earlier Hobbit prototypes with two AT&T Hobbit processors and Be's 1993-94 system. The emulator covers processors, boot ROM, video, sound, SCSI, Ethernet, and shared folders, but not the parallel port, GeekPort, MIDI, or infrared.
The window shows the emulated screen between the two front panel LED columns (the "blinkenlights"), sixteen light pipe segments each: a CPU load bar of fifteen LEDs over the power LED (left) or the disk LED (right), lime and amber like the real ones (or red and green, if you prefer).

I recall dual booting BeOS circa 1999/2000, on my 486dx2-66.
It was shockingly performant, especially with anything graphical.
The difficulty was no apps.
Brings back fond memories, nonetheless.

If only for the UI. Back then, all bring white and beige and Windows blue screenofdesthblye. Be OS was pure joy, if only to play around with. Many third-party developers (remember sharewsre) took s liking to the Be aesthetic and ran away with it.

I really do need to play with Haiku more.
