eBay Restricts Listings of Radio Equipment, but Exempts Ham-Band-Only Gear

eBay Restricts Radio Equipment Listings, but Ham-Band-Only Gear Is Exempt

eBay has imposed new restrictions on radio transmitting equipment listings to comply with FCC rules that took effect October 13. The rules require FCC ID numbers for devices subject to authorization. However, after ARRL sought clarification, eBay confirmed that gear operating exclusively on amateur radio frequencies is exempt, as it doesn't require FCC authorization. Two-way VHF/UHF radios that can operate outside ham bands still need certification. Sellers affected by mistaken restrictions can contact eBay.

eBay allows the sale of devices capable of operating only on frequencies that the FCC has allocated for use by Amateur Radio Service licensees. As these devices do not require FCC equipment authorization, FCC IDs will not be required for these listings as an amateur licensee may use his or her license to operate such radios.
