Bill Joy mailed every 2BSD tape by hand

After the first BSD release, Bill Joy improved the Pascal system and bundled it with vi, the C shell, and other tools into 2BSD, shipping nearly seventy-five tapes in a year — copying each one and mailing it himself. Then in 1978 a VAX arrived at Berkeley, and since 32/V ignored the machine's virtual memory, Richard Fateman's Macsyma work pushed the team to fix that over the holidays.

Not going away for the holidays? Might as well debug this while fewer people are using the VAX.
