Laid-off engineers are rebuilding Auth0 and Salesforce as free open-source clones
OccupySaaS
OccupySaaS is a protest movement in code: laid-off engineers using AI and public documentation to build clean-room, Apache-2.0, drop-in replacements for the SaaS platforms that charge per seat. Two early projects are already public — ZeroAuthy, an Auth0-compatible identity server, and SalesCompel, a Salesforce-compatible CRM. The method is strict: specs from public docs only, a firewall between spec writers and builders, and compatibility proven against the vendors' own SDKs.
They cut us. We commit. A million engineers were let go while the platforms kept growing. We still know how to ship. Now we ship it in the open.
