AI-generated fan wikis are flooding search results and crowding out real game info
AI fan wikis riddled with errors are muddying the waters of games culture

Eurogamer found that AI-generated fan wikis for indie games are spreading false information and outranking legitimate community resources. Tim Bender, CEO of Hooded Horse, says his company plays "whack-a-mole" with these sites, which mass-produce pages to soak up ad traffic. One such site, GameDB, admitted to using generative AI and hosts over 20 game wikis. The sites also burden independent wikis with scraping traffic, driving up server costs three- to ten-fold.
The way we survive the AI pollution is with community. Many people chipping in a small bit, and feeling a sense of shared ownership.
