DoorDash to buy Instacart for $17 billion to keep local stores competitive
DoorDash is acquiring Instacart for $17B

DoorDash has agreed to acquire Instacart for about $17 billion, or $65 per share — a 26% premium. The deal combines DoorDash's delivery network with Instacart's grocery technology, aiming to give local grocers tools to compete with big online retailers. Consumers would gain access to over 50,000 additional stores and a single membership covering DashPass and Instacart+. The transaction is expected to close in late 2027 or early 2028, pending regulatory and shareholder approval.
Grocery is one of the hardest things to get right online. Someone has to pick a ripe avocado, find a substitute you'd choose yourself, and get the ice cream to you before it melts.
