The US added a record 20.2 GWh of battery storage in Q2 2026, pushing first-half installations to 30.8 GWh, up 23% year over year, according to SEIA and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. Utility-scale projects drove nearly all of it, including seven gigawatt-hour-scale builds, with Arizona alone setting a single-state record of 6.2 GWh. Residential storage fell 27% after a federal tax credit was removed. Benchmark raised its 2030 forecast by 11.5% to 683 GWh.
Energy storage is no longer just a California and Texas story anymore.
