OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Terra cuts API prices in half while tripling task speed
OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Terra is a fast, efficient model built for visual reasoning and computer use. Standard API pricing is 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra, and it completes tasks over three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. On Agents' Last Exam it beats GPT-5.6 Terra by 15 points at roughly a third of the cost, and its error rate on hallucination-inducing prompts drops from 53.6% to 16.7%.
At max effort, Terra is over three times as token efficient as Claude Opus 5.5, and one-fourth its price per token, resulting in a ~9x lower cost per task.
