Writing, Not Code, Is the Closest Thing We Have to Human Thought
Writing Is Closer to Thought Than Code

Daniel Miessler pushes back on the idea that code is the source of truth in AI-assisted development. Code, he argues, is only a representation—like a painting is an abstraction of what the painter meant. Writing captures intent with far greater accuracy, even if it lacks code's precision. Most AI failures in 2026 are really articulation failures: the model executes perfectly but the result doesn't match what was in your head. His fix is the Ideal State Artifact, a living document of intent, constraints, decisions, and testable criteria that the build and its evals both flow from.
More and more of the problems at this point are it executing the job perfectly, and having the result be different than what was in our mind.
