FOSDEM 2027 launches a devroom for people building tools under censorship

I refuse to accept a censored Internet. Join Me at FOSDEM 27

Bogomil Shopov, a manager of the new Digital Dissident devroom at FOSDEM 2027, argues that people living under authoritarian regimes depend on a chain of tools — circumvention, metadata-resistant messaging, secure publishing, and hardened devices — where the weakest link decides the outcome. The devroom gathers developers, researchers, and activists to work on interoperability and shared threat models rather than single products. The call for participation opens October 24, 2026.

Someone living under an authoritarian regime never uses a single tool, though. Their day-to-day security depends on a chain of tools that has to hold up end to end.
