Fields Medalist Richard Borcherds Stops Grading Homework as AI Makes It Pointless

UC Berkeley professor and Fields medalist Richard Borcherds has stopped grading homework for correctness after students used AI to score top marks, leaving him to grade only on completion. He warns that if AI keeps improving at its current pace, human mathematicians will soon have nothing left they can do better. He even asked ChatGPT for career advice and got no answer.

If AI continues to improve at present rate, then, in a few years, there'll be nothing human mathematicians can do that AI can't do better.
