GitHub moves 99.99999% of its repositories to Azure
The bridge to agent-scale Git infrastructure

Git traffic is exploding as agents push code around the clock, and GitHub's own data centers have hit a hard power ceiling. Nearly every repository now lives in both its data centers and Azure, but the busiest ones stall on a 25ms cross-region round trip. GitHub is narrowing its write quorum from the whole repository to individual references, lifting write throughput 3–4x, and adding stateless read replicas backed by Azure Blob Storage.
The commit protocol that has taken GitHub to a billion repositories won't take it to the next billion and beyond.
