Subaru is killing off gas cars in Europe, and it's not by choice

Subaru will stop selling combustion-engine vehicles in Europe by the end of 2027, retiring the Outback this year and the Impreza, Crosstrek, and Forester in 2027. From 2028, only three Toyota-developed EVs remain: the Solterra, E-Outback, and Uncharted. Subaru Germany says EU emissions and driver-assistance rules forced the move, which applies to Europe only. Meanwhile, Subaru is developing its own EV platform for around 2029.

Known for its boxer engines, Subaru's shift to an all-electric lineup is not necessarily by choice.

"Subaru is killing off gas cars and will only sell rebadged Toyota EVs in Europe."

Subaru was talking about an electric model over 20 years ago! I saw the concept drawings. Whoever has run Subaru for the last 20 years needs to be given a watch and thanked for their service on their way out the door.

Isn't this because of the EU's target of reducing CO2 by 55% by 2030 which is effectively an EV mandate?

Subaru the brand with the worst infotainment in the market is going all electric. That’s going to go well

I don’t think I’ve seen more than 10 Subarus in Europe.

(Subaru marketshare is already fairly small in Europe, but an interesting data point imho as global electrification continues)
