Pillowfort shuts down after a decade, never recovering from its 2021 security breach

Pillowfort Is Closing

Pillowfort will close on December 4, 2026. Founder Julia says the site never regained momentum after a 2021 security incident forced weeks offline, and a part-time skeleton crew of one community manager, one moderator, and three developers couldn't sustain it. Subscriptions are cancelled, refunds are offered for purchases since August 5, and a blog export tool is coming. No one stepped up to lead the non-profit.
