NixOS made me stop dreading side projects
NixOS is making me less afraid
The author had long wanted a server-side RSS aggregator but avoided it because self-hosted services mean hours of maintenance and brittle reinstall procedures. With NixOS, a working FreshRSS deployment with backups took nine lines of Nix code, plus a dozen for the nginx reverse proxy, and has run hands-off for months. If the server dies, an identical replacement can be spun up in about 15 minutes — so trying new software now feels essentially free.
When we can do something like that, there is literally no reason to not just try the new software.
