After his first post on Anthropic's Scion copying Mononoke, the author received private confirmation that the ripoff was deliberate and involved overlapping personnel. The resemblance goes beyond derived data to the entire Bonsai data model, including changesets and server-side APIs. The real issue is attribution, not copying, and crediting Sapling for 'hard-won lessons' is not enough.
This remains yet another shameful example of large AI companies appropriating the commons and presenting others' work as their own.
