Container ship sinks in Strait of Hormuz as Iran steps up attacks
A Singapore-registered container ship, the GFS Pride, sank in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after being struck by an unidentified projectile, with all 21 crew safely evacuated. A second vessel, the GFS Giselle, was also hit. Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed a mine caused the sinking, but no independent evidence supports that. More than 20 vessels have been attacked this month, cutting crude oil exports through the strait to 8.5 million barrels per day, nearly 40% below prewar levels.
Such attacks are unprovoked, unjustifiable and a breach of international law.
