How a single /etc/hosts edit brought iChat video calls back to life
Resurrecting iChat Audio and Video Conferencing
Chris Jones and a friend reverse-engineered Apple's dead SNATMAP server using an LLM to revive iChat AV on Leopard. By redirecting configuration.apple.com to a custom Python UDP server, they restored peer-to-peer audio and video calls. The fix requires only one line in /etc/hosts, and a public server is available for the few remaining users.
I'm keeping it running for the 1-5 people left in the world that want to video chat using the ancient software. :D
