Paper Office lets AI agents edit Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files with 92.5% success

Paper Instruments released Paper Office, a suite of Python packages that extend python-docx, python-pptx, and openpyxl with agent-first APIs for safe, correct manipulation of existing Office files. Across 61 tasks and five models, Paper passed 92.5% of trials, versus 80.7% for upstream packages and 69.5% with Anthropic's Office skills. Agents also resorted to raw OOXML edits in only 1.6% of Paper runs, down from 78.7% without skills.
Agents also wrote code to edit Office file internals directly in just 1.6% of Paper runs, compared with 78.7% without skills and 50.5% with Anthropic skills.
