D2, the open-source diagramming language, is now fiscally sponsored by Hack Club after its parent company shut down. Creator Alex will continue maintaining the project, but with limited time and a new AI-driven approach: all future contributions will use AI, and the project will prioritize a small, curated feature set over bloat. Non-goals include server-based features like MCP or APIs. The project aims for native integration with platforms like GitHub and Notion, a stable 1.0 release, and to become the most powerful harness for AI agents.
