Discord dumps Electron and rewrites its app in Rust to slash RAM use

Discord is abandoning Electron and React Native, moving its entire desktop client to Rust, a language it has used since 2018 for infrastructure and voice tech. CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy shared a screenshot of the Windows app running on just 290MB of RAM, a sharp drop from the 1GB or more the current app often consumes. Mobile keeps native UI but will share app code with desktop through Rust. Testing with users is expected soon.

We've been early adopters of Rust since 2018 and a lot of our infra, voice tech, and even some of the current client is already Rust, the holy grail was getting the whole client there.
