C++26 Rejected by ISO Vote for the First Time in the Language's History
C++26 Disapproved

On October 23, 2026, ISO National Bodies voted down the C++26 DIS ballot, failing to reach the required two-thirds majority over the Contracts feature. Committee member Andreas Fertig, who represents Germany's vote, calls it the first failed DIS in C++ history and a massive disaster for the community. With WG21 having repeatedly approved Contracts by wide margins, the path forward is unclear, and the next meeting on November 16 must break the deadlock.
During the DIS vote, the losing parties refused to accept their loss.
