The British Library's web archive is back online, but only captures the UK web up to December 2022
British Library Legal deposit and web archiving
The UK Web Archive has been restored after 2023 disruption, but only sites archived before December 2022 are searchable, and most can only be viewed inside a Legal Deposit Library reading room. Each year the archive snapshots at least four million UK websites—billions of files—identified by .uk domains, UK addresses, or UK-hosted servers, governed by legal deposit law. Private social media posts and standalone sound or film recordings are excluded.
Where the web crawling software encounters a login facility, it cannot access any material behind the login facility without the appropriate password or access credentials.
