Wyoming Ranchers to Well-Meaning Neighbors: Stop 'Rescuing' Our Guardian Dogs
Frustrated Ranchers Want People to Quit 'Rescuing' Their Working Guardian Dogs

Livestock guardian dogs like Akbash and Great Pyrenees live with sheep around the clock, defending them from predators, and can cost a thousand dollars plus a year or two of training. When newcomers spot one wandering outside a fence, they often mistake it for a starving stray and haul it to a shelter, leaving the flock unprotected. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office and ranchers are asking people to leave the dogs alone or call law enforcement instead.
They're usually very annoyed, because the dog is out there for a job and you're keeping it from its job.
