A South African Mastermind Ordered a Real-Estate Agent Killed — and the DEA Kept Him Secret
An Arrogant Way of Killing (2016)

In February 2012, a garbage collector in Taytay, Philippines, found the body of real-estate broker Catherine Lee, shot under each eye. The case led investigators to Paul Le Roux, a South African reputed to be the most prolific international criminal of the 21st century, involved in arms shipments, gold smuggling, and online drug sales. The DEA captured him in 2012, then made him disappear to work as a secret asset.
Contract murder is a thriving industry in the Philippines; having someone killed can cost as little as 5,000 pesos, or around $100.

I really resent pictures of human bodies being presented to me. I made a life decision that I prefer not to see stuff like that unless I actively choose.

This is the TrueCrypt guy. Sometimes it feels like I just missed out on big history. VeraCrypt's license still includes him: https://veracrypt.io/en/VeraCrypt%20License.html
What on earth, man. I remember the name being familiar for software reasons back in the 2000s because a bunch of people were talking about TrueCrypt back then and not trusting anonymous software and this and that. He became a crime boss? This is a revelation for me as big as the ReiserFS situation.

There’s also a great book I think called The Mastermind
