Tomas Mikolov (creator of Word2Vec) receives the Medal of Merit
Czech President Petr Pavel awarded the Medal of Merit to Tomáš Mikolov, the Brno University of Technology graduate behind Word2Vec, whose method of representing words as mathematical vectors became a foundation for modern language models. The same honor went to fellow BUT alumnus Filip Maleňák, creator of the Záchranka app, which lets callers share their precise location with emergency services and find nearby defibrillators.
This approach has become one of the important foundations for the development of modern language models and technologies that underpin many of today's artificial intelligence tools.
