The AI utopia's infinite vacation will leave us with no one to hang out with

We Won't "Just Hang Out"

The usual answer to what we'll do after the Singularity is that we'll "just hang out," as in the Culture novels. Fernando Borretti argues this fails on three counts: the communities that create friendships—work, school, open-source projects, IRC help rooms—will dissolve once AI makes human contributions superfluous; AI-generated superstimulus will outcompete real company; and people raised without struggle or accomplishment won't be interesting to talk to. Existing friendships may become a non-renewable resource.

Under ASI this endless leisure will be passed in diminished, tiresome company, since we will lack the experiences of struggle and striving that generate interesting personalities.
