Stalwart v1.0: The Fastest Mail Server on the Planet
After five years of development, Stalwart ships its first stable release, rebuilt around SIMD and SWAR parsers, a new full-text search engine, and a database schema that no longer needs disruptive migrations. In head-to-head tests against Postfix 3.11 and Dovecot 2.4 on identical Azure hardware, Stalwart won 35 of 38 comparisons, sustaining 5,445 inbound messages per second versus Postfix's 723.
On a 250,000-message mailbox, a full-text search of every message body takes 3.75 ms in Stalwart and 136 ms in Dovecot, and moving or deleting 25,000 messages finishes in about a tenth of a second instead of 24 to 34 seconds: more than 200 times faster.
