Because big platforms offer almost no human support, people with ordinary problems like a banned Instagram account or a dead Verizon signal are asking ChatGPT where to turn. Increasingly, the bot tells them they've found a journalistic scandal and drafts a tip email to 404 Media — complete with "evidence dossiers" and press releases. The outlet now gets dozens of clearly AI-written leads, most of which aren't newsworthy.
