Lula storms back from first-round defeat to win Brazil's presidency a fourth time
Brazil elections: Lula secures fourth term after dramatic comeback

Brazil's veteran left-wing leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been re-elected, defeating right-wing rival Flávio Bolsonaro in a run-off just three weeks after losing the first round. The comeback defies a regional shift toward conservative leaders and hands him a fourth term starting January 2027 — but he will govern alongside the most right-wing Congress of Brazil's democratic era, with more than 48% of voters backing his opponent.
Lula had warned the US not to interfere in the election and insisted that Brazil would "never fit into anyone's backyard".
