Lumentum's optical components are sold out through 2029 as the AI industry hits the copper wall
APC says let there be light, with standards to speed up photonics manufacturing

The Advanced Photonics Coalition has approved a set of manufacturing, interface, and test standards aimed at enabling high-volume production of co-packaged optics. The move comes as AI data centers hit the limits of copper networking and photonics suppliers struggle to scale — Lumentum says its indium phosphide components are sold out through 2029. The standards cover CPO architecture, silicon photonics test and manufacturing, and multicore fiber, with the goal of breaking down supply chain silos and preventing a fragmented, proprietary market.
