This collective keeps 1970s digital telecom gear running, not just on display
Historical Telecommunications
A loose, self-funded group of engineers is preserving digital telecommunications from the late 1960s to the late 1990s — ISDN, X.25 packet networks, PDH/SDH, ATM, and digital switches like EWSD and System 12. Frustrated by museums that show dead hardware with one-page labels, they repair and operate the equipment, publish manuals and schematics, and build network emulators so vintage gear can connect over the internet.
Most large, public telecommunications museums are rather disappointing from our view, as they are way too superficial and often happy with exhibiting some dead piece of hardware with a one-page description.
