AI scans find inflamed arteries in 42.9% of supposedly low-risk adults
AI analysis of CT scans finds 42.9% of patients have coronary inflammation
Biograph's first U.S. study applied Caristo Diagnostics' CaRi-Heart AI to CT angiography scans of asymptomatic, low-risk adults and found elevated coronary inflammation in 42.9% of them, with 17.9% showing very high inflammation in at least one major artery. Nearly half of those with no detectable plaque still had inflamed vessels. Routine cholesterol, HbA1c, hs-CRP and the AHA PREVENT risk score failed to flag any of them.
What is striking about our findings is that more than 42% of asymptomatic, conventionally low-risk adults had elevated coronary inflammation, and many individuals with the highest inflammatory levels had completely normal coronary anatomy on CT.
