Quad9 Quits France After Court Orders It to Block Domains

Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France

A French court ruled in favor of beIN, forcing Quad9 to block certain domain names for users in France or face daily fines. Quad9 argues compliance is technically impossible without either applying French law globally or violating user privacy, and that the ruling misunderstands how DNS works. The nonprofit will withdraw its free cybersecurity service from France on November 24, 2026, leaving French users without its protection.
