Google bulldozed 300 hectares of Finnish forest before regulators could review the plan

Google's local Finnish entity, Tuike Finland Oy, cleared roughly 300 hectares of forest — about 420 football fields — for a new AI data center before the full environmental review was finished. Finland's Permit and Supervision Agency has demanded an explanation, and conservationists say satellite imagery shows protected areas already leveled. Google insists the clearing followed Finnish law; regulators could halt the site as part of a €13 billion investment.

Google was apparently so eager to build its new data center infrastructure in Finland that it began bulldozing large swaths of forest before the required environmental review of the full plan was complete.
