Rainbows Spec Turns a Stack Machine Into a Fantasy Computer
In Rainbows

The rainbows specification defines memory-mapped I/O devices for the ok virtual machine, named after Radiohead's In Rainbows. It provides a console (RbConsole), arithmetic unit (RbArith), disk (RbDisk), and planned datetime and screen devices. The author details each device's memory layout, including stdin/stdout, command-line argument access, multiplication and division, and block-based storage. The screen device remains unresolved due to color depth and resolution trade-offs, with the goal of running bare-metal on a 1024x600 laptop.
At this point it's literally keeping me up at night, and has been since I was first writing about ok.
