Anthropic is a Public Benefit Corporation, a legal status that obliges it to weigh the interests of shareholders against the benefit to the wider public. Its charter lays out five pillars — solving AI safety, making safe practice universal and backed by law, strengthening democracy, expanding prosperity, and sharing AI's benefits — and commits the company to publishing an annual report on its progress toward them.
