Feds Suspect Ransom Negotiator Ran ShinyHunters Extortion Site

FBI investigators believe an executive at a prominent U.S. ransomware negotiation firm helped operate Shinywire, the ShinyHunters extortion site that listed nearly 100 hacked organizations. The probe, sparked by Signal messages from a detained Dutch hacker, also led to the arrest of Canadian cyber executive Edward Dubrovsky, who allegedly knew ShinyHunters had stolen FBI data and stayed silent. ShinyHunters has extorted over $70 million this year alone.

The OPM breach was 11 years ago and apparently the incompetence still reigns.

Breaking Bad vibes here. "You don't want a ransom negociator, you want a ransom negociator!"

Even before the current administration, federal law enforcement's leaks of suspects, especially in high-profile crimes, have been highly unreliable and have ruined lives. See Wen Ho Lee, Richard Jewell, etc.

Working in the IR space I’ve had a lot of opportunities to work with negotiators before. Most of them are extremely professional and worth their weight in gold for what they provide to their clients.

Ridiculous that scumbags like this are tarnishing that space.
