I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
A Ruby developer has archived every one of his gems and stopped maintaining them. He traces his disillusionment to two shifts: Rails is controlled by a figure whose views he rejects, and Ruby itself is now largely developed with LLM agents, with Matz pitching it as a language for the AI age. He no longer wants to feed a commons that corporations mine to train the machines whose output pollutes it.
When people claim that it's no longer sustainable to write code by hand, they're not entirely wrong, but only in the same way that it's no longer sustainable to sleep in a bed once someone has taken a shit in it.
