The meat cannon that has fired 20,000 hot dogs into Nebraska's biggest crowd
'Der Viener Schlinger': The meat cannon that launched 20k hot dogs

Der Viener Schlinger, the world's first handheld hot dog launcher, debuted at Memorial Stadium in 1997 after Fairbury Brand Meats' marketing director spotted the Phillie Phanatic firing franks from an ATV. Built from a CO2 tank and a retrofitted dolly, the six-foot cannon now fires Fairbury Tomboys at 90 mph. Shooters Conrad Good and Tim Eliker have sent more than 20,000 hot dogs into the stands, and Bill Murray and Warren Buffett have taken a turn at the trigger.
A bullet exits a Colt .45 at around 860 feet per second. That's only about six times as fast as the muzzle velocity of a hot dog leaving the barrel of Der Viener Schlinger.
