New York Rep Moves to Make Gamers Own Their Games, Not Just License Them

Rep. Ritchie Torres of New York's 15th congressional district has introduced the Power To The Players Act, which would direct the FTC to write rules ensuring that buying a video game grants real ownership rather than a license to play it. The bill would also require publishers to keep games functional after official support ends, joining Pennsylvania in pushing back against anti-consumer practices.

Under the bill, buying a video game would give the consumer ownership of the game rather than a license to play it.
