A 19-hour Moby Dick GIF squeezed into an 88x31 button
Making a 88x31 button book using ImageMagick
Using ImageMagick and the tiny TomThumb font, a 6x4 pixel typeface that fits 22 characters across five rows, the author turns the entire text of Moby Dick into an animated 88x31 GIF. The full book runs over 19 hours and weighs 4.2 MB, with each frame showing about a dozen words. Plain POSIX tools like cat, tr, and fold handle the line wrapping, and a short Python script centers the text.
Usually the animations are there just to catch your eye, or to display several words in succession. But why not Moby Dick?
