Anthropic Console silently charged a developer $504 instead of $5.04 after misreading a localized decimal input
Anthropic Console overcharged my card 100x due to internationalization input bug
A Costa Rican LegalTech attorney leading a developer team tried to add $5.04 in credits to their Anthropic API account. Typing "5.04" in a Spanish-locale context, the console stripped the decimal and instantly charged $504.00 with no confirmation screen. The support bot denied the refund, and a chargeback could take up to 120 days, leaving the developer to cover the overcharge.
In financial software, a system is never supposed to guess or automatically manipulate a numerical input without explicit validation. If an input is ambiguous due to locale differences, the application must reject it or ask for clarification, not execute a 100x overcharge.
