US Rep Moves to Make Gamers Truly Own Their Games
US Rep Announces Congressional Legislation to Protect Video Game Ownership

Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15) announced the Power To The Players Act, directing the FTC to regulate video game ownership. The bill would turn purchases into outright ownership rather than revocable licenses, and require offline modes before online servers shut down. Torres cited NBA 2K25, delisted two years after release, as proof that paid games can vanish on a company's arbitrary timeline.
A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale.
