UK Sanctions Cryptomus, the Payment Hub Fueling Russia's Cybercrime Economy

U.K. Sanctions Cryptomus for RU Money Laundering

The UK has sanctioned Cryptomus — formerly Certa Payments and Xeltox Enterprises, now also operating as Heleket — for processing payments that benefit the Russian government and its financial institutions. The sanctions freeze its UK assets and bar British firms from doing business with it. Chainalysis called Cryptomus and Heleket major payment hubs for illicit activity, with over 900 illicit counterparties in a single month in late 2025. TRM Labs found Cryptomus processed more than $7 billion since 2022, including transactions tied to child sexual abuse material, terrorist financing, and human trafficking.

A fine doesn't stop a cryptocurrency payment processor from processing payments. Sanctions kill the operation. The distinction matters.
