Denmark to let teachers physically restrain disruptive students for the first time since 1967
Denmark set to allow return of 'physical force' in school
Denmark plans to allow teachers to use physical restraint on disruptive students starting August 2027, the first such change since corporal punishment was banned in 1967. The center-left government's proposal permits holding a student, keeping them in place, or removing them from the classroom if they significantly disrupt lessons, harass others, or refuse to comply. The teachers' union has long pushed for this flexibility, citing growing difficulties in managing unruly classrooms.
Teachers would be allowed to 'hold a student, keep them in place, or take them to another room against their will.'
