The Mac Dock, from OS X Cheetah to macOS 27: a visual history
The Dock on Mac, from OS 10 to macOS 27
Jim Nielsen, who wrote the app icon history chapter for The iOS App Icon Book, found an old note from his early research on the macOS version. Unsure how to approach such a rich topic, he began by compiling the Mac Dock from OS X Cheetah through macOS 27 into a single graphic, using images from 512 Pixels. The post is simply that image, archived for reference, with a high-resolution version linked.
At the time, I didn’t know what to write. I mean, how do you write a history of icon design for the Mac? It’s rich!
