Hackers remotely defrosted fridges across hundreds of French supermarkets
French supermarkets suffer fridge shutdown after 'unprecedented' cyberattack
A cyberattack forced refrigerators to spike in temperature at hundreds of French supermarkets, including E. Leclerc, Intermarche, and Cooperative U, which called it "unprecedented." Hackers remotely triggered forced defrosting of refrigeration systems, spoiling fresh and frozen stock that must now be thrown away. Paris prosecutors opened an investigation, and the affected Danfoss controllers were legacy models no longer receiving security updates.
Targeting equipment essential to the preservation of fresh products and to the food supply of the French people is extremely serious and is unprecedented. It is unacceptable.
