Cloudflare Acquires Deno, Will Shut It Down Over the Coming Year
In Memory of Deno
Cloudflare has acquired Deno, the JavaScript runtime known for its ease of use and security, and will shut it down within a year. A developer who built a business serving thousands of users on Deno reflects on its sandboxed execution, simple commands like `deno run`, and contributions to Deno Deploy and Fresh. Despite the loss, migration to Node or Bun is straightforward, and Deno's influence on the JavaScript ecosystem will endure.
While Deno may fade away, the impact its had–on me, the overall Javascript ecosystem, and the millions of people downstream–will live on forever.
