Mistral Unveils 1T-Parameter Open Model, Beats Closed Rivals on Visual Grounding

Mistral AI announced Mistral Large 4, nicknamed Le Chonk, a natively multimodal model with 1 trillion parameters and 49 billion active. The company calls it the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks, claiming state-of-the-art results on cyber defense, manufacturing, and finance, and that it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. It is available today via API through Mistral Cloud, with open weights due at the end of October.
